Learn About Bamboo Fencing

If you have some free time maybe you would like to construct your own fence by using bamboo fencing. There is a very basic design that can be used. This design is used in Japanese landscape architecture and has been used since ancient times. It is a very simple design and will blend in with any landscape.

The first thing you have to do when you begin is to dig holes 1 foot deep and at least 4 feet apart. Use a string and level the tops of each post to make sure they are the same height. Place your post in the hole and fill in the hole tamping the soil down well. Mark the inside of your post 1 to 2 feet down from the top. Try to use the straightest piece of bamboo you have as cross pieces and cut them to the inside dimensions of your fence panel. Allow 1 inch of the insertion into each post. Drill holes in your posts half inch deep so that you can connect your bamboo. When you insert the cross pieces turn them to get them as straight as possible before you nail it to the post. Make sure the nail is long enough to go into the post being careful not to strike the bamboo with the nail because it may crack.

When the cross pieces are in place simply tie on the vertical canes. To get it straight just use a string to make sure the posts are all of one height. Trim the cane facing upward to the nearest joint end. You can add a vertical cane to each post, but it is not necessary for the structure of the fence as it is used mostly for a more finished appearance. You will find that bamboo is very durable and needs very little maintenance. It adds beauty to your home and garden and the effort of making this will show in the job well done.
